MDCAT Merit Lists: How They Work and What Score You Need

A merit list ranks applicants by aggregate. Each university publishes its own lists, usually in several rounds, and the last score admitted to a college is its closing merit.

Last checked: 6 November 2026

How merit is decided

  1. You pass MDCAT with the minimum score: 55% for MBBS or 50% for BDS.
  2. You apply separately to the admitting university, listing your college preferences.
  3. Your aggregate is calculated: 10% Matric, 40% FSc and 50% MDCAT.
  4. Seats go down the list by aggregate, according to your category, quota and preferences.
  5. Further lists fill any seats that remain unclaimed.

Merit lists by province

PunjabUHS LahoreUHS handles centralised admissions. For 2026-27, reports say you must rank public colleges in order of preference, with no limit on private college preferences, and pay your fee within three working days of the list.
KPKMU PeshawarKMU publishes MBBS and BDS lists for different seat categories, such as public and private colleges.
SindhAdmitting universities and SIBAIn 2025, merit lists came out in three phases: first, second and final.

What closing merit should you aim for?

We do not publish college-by-college closing merit until we can check it against official lists. Figures on many websites cannot be traced to a source. One calculator site removed its own table for that reason. These are the rough ranges it gives, which are unofficial estimates:

Region (public MBBS, open merit)Rough estimate
PunjabLow 90s
KP (Ayub, Khyber Medical College)About 87 to 90
Sindh (DUHS)Mid to high 80s
Check it yourself: download last year's final merit list for the college you want from the official website, then note the last aggregate admitted in your category. Merit moves from year to year, so aim above it.

What MDCAT score does that mean for you?

This table shows the MDCAT marks a student needs, assuming 1000/1100 in Matric. Each result is rounded up to a whole mark.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good aggregate for a government medical college?

One unofficial estimate puts Punjab public MBBS open merit in the low 90s, Sindh at DUHS in the mid to high 80s, and KP at about 87 to 90. Treat these as rough guides only and check the latest official lists.

What is the difference between a provisional and a final merit list?

A provisional list lets applicants report errors, and a final list is used for admissions. Later lists can appear as seats become free.

Is a private college merit lower?

Private colleges generally have lower closing merit than public colleges, but fees are much higher. Check the merit list and fee details for the college you are considering.

Why did my name not appear on the merit list?

Check whether you submitted the admission application, as MDCAT registration does not cover it. Then check your college preferences and the category you applied under. Report any errors within the given window.

Will 150 marks get me into a government medical college?

It depends on your FSc and Matric marks, but it is difficult for open merit at a public college. With 1000/1100 in Matric and 950/1100 in FSc, 150/180 gives an aggregate of about 85.3.
