Course of Action: MDCAT Notes and MCQs
A course of action is a practical step to solve, reduce or follow up a problem stated in a passage. Assume the statement is true.
A course of action follows if it is
- Practical and feasible (can actually be done),
- Directly related to the problem and likely to solve or reduce it,
- Proportionate โ not extreme or harsh (banning, abolishing, shutting down entire systems are usually wrong),
- Consistent with established norms and the authority concerned.
Rejects
Actions that are vague, extreme, punish everyone for a few people's faults, merely shift the problem, or are outside the scope of the statement.
For natural disasters and emergencies, immediate relief + long-term preventive measures both usually follow.
